Stroll past the stylish shops, (antiques, designer clothes and kitchens in George St) Walk through the Maltings and St. Christopher's Place and enjoy the entertainers. Perhaps a meal or a coffee in one of the many excellent restaurants or cafes. Or maybe a drink in a modern bar, try the Slug and Lettuce in Chequer St or perhaps a pint in a traditional pub, try the White Swan in Upper Dagnal St or, reputedly, the oldest pub in England, the Fighting Cocks in Verulam Park. If you would like to go further afield there is a wonderful range of interesting places. From Shaw's Corner in Ayot St. Lawrence, home to the great playwright, George Bernard Shaw, to Hatfield House, home to Elizabeth I, and Windsor Castle, home to Elizabeth II. Drive to Waddesdon to see the Rothschild Collection or perhaps Stowe to see the wonderful eighteenth century follies and landscaped gardens created by Capability Brown. And of course there's Oxford and Cambridge. All easily reached by road or rail or even by bus.
London is always a magnet for any visitor and it is easily reached from HomefromHolme apartments. The station is an easy walk and the trains run every 10 minutes in rush hour and every twenty minutes afterwards and the journey to St. Pancras International is 19 minutes. The line runs into the City of London and straight down to the sea at Brighton. (If you have time to visit Brighton and its Regency grandeur it is well worth the trip). At St. Pancras International the line connects with the underground network and the Eurostar service. Try a return ticket from St. Albans to Paris, three hours door to door!
St Albans enjoys an enviable location with fast road and rail links to London and all parts of the Country. The major airports at Heathrow, Stansted, Gatwick and Luton are within an hour, depending on the route chosen. The city has fast access to the M25 and from there to all the motorways, North, South, East and West. In addition there is easy access to the M1 and the A1 for the North and North West and the North East.
