The Lisboa Welcome Card, which can be purchased from tourist information outlets, offers free use of all public transport in the city and free or reduced price tickets to many museums, galleries and tourist attractions.

Eating out: Lisbon is strong on fish and the vinho verde, the lightly sparkling wine from the north, complements it well. But you can also find dishes from Portugal’s interior, such as cozida à portuguesa (stew with beans, smoked sausage and pig’s ear) or porco à alentejana (pork with clams). Then there’s bacalhau (salted cod) soaked and cooked in one of a reputed 365 ways.
