As part of our ongoing charity commitment to celebrate our 30th Anniversary, the 22nd April (the day before St. George´s Day) was dedicated to Help For Heroes. The Apartment Service had a dress down day and all staff came to the office in their non-work attire.
The charity Help For Heroes was founded in 2007 by Bryn and Emma Parry and a group of friends to help those men and women who have been injured in conflicts around the globe since 9/11. The charity benefits the Navy, the Army and the Royal Airforce.
The charity is supported by a host of well known people and HRH Prince William said during the opening of the Rehabilitation Centre at Headley Court in June 2010:
"Very occasionally, perhaps once or twice in a generation, something or someone pops up to change the entire landscape. Help 4 Heroes is one such phenomenon. What it has achieved here at Headley Court is, in truth, but the tip of the iceberg."
H4H at a glance:
* It is a young charity, founded in 2007
* We support those wounded in the service of our country since 9/11
* Rely heavily on (largely) volunteer network
* Not political, Not critical. "Just getting on with the job"
* Effective. Raised £89 million in just over three years.
H4H key messages:
- It's about 'the blokes': those men and women of our Armed Forces who have been wounded in the service of our country since 9/11.
- H4H provides direct, practical support for our wounded. We fund projects and initiatives that make a real difference to the lives of our wounded heroes.
- We do not seek to criticise or be political. We just want to help and we work closely with the Army, Navy and RAF to provide support where it is most needed.
- 'Money in, money out'. We spend all that we get and all our admin costs are covered by selling H4H merchandise through Help for Heroes Trading.
- It's about doing your bit, no matter how big or small. Every fundraiser is special to us and can make a real difference, so please keep going!

The Apartment Service, 30 this year, has started the research for the third Global Serviced Apartments Industry Report. The report is due in September 2011 and will look at the development of the serviced apartment sector and what (if any) the influence of the worldwide financial crisis has been on this development. Shortly we will be sending out a survey to around 3000 serviced apartment operators worldwide to get their views and input.
We invite anyone with any input on the subject of worldwide Serviced Apartments to engage in the conversation here. We are looking for input from all sides, i.e. serviced apartment operators, booking agents, corporate clients, travel management companies, human resource departments etc.
The 2010 report can still be accessed here. For further information on the Global Serviced Apartments Reports, to receive the 2009/10 report in PDF and/or to register your interest in a copy of the 2011/12 report, please email Bard Vos. And also, if you are a serviced apartment operator and would like to take part in the survey, but have not received a copy, you can contact me via this email address.
The Serviced Apartments industry is growing in importance and is worth talking about!!!

Two New Saco Properties are now part of our portfolio of serviced apartments. Saco Spitalfields is yet another excellent and well priced alternative for corporate accommodation in The City; each -one and two bedrooms- apartment offers floor to ceiling windows, contemporary furnishings and fully equipped kitchens.
The area
What was once a retail backwater is now a haven for those in search of a quirky shopping experience. Here it’s the free-thinking independents not chain stores that hold sway, in a lively environment that truly deserves to be described as unique and eclectic. The programme of live music and artistic events makes Spitalfields a draw for anyone looking to eat, drink or watch the world go by. And above all, for style-conscious shoppers already captivated by nearby Brick Lane, Cheshire and Hanbury Streets, it’s an opportunity not to be missed.
While for those looking to rent an apartment for short or extendible periods, within easy reach of major High-Tech industries including Panasonic, Fujitsu, Hewlett Packard, Cable and Wireless, Dell, Honeywell, BMW Group and Waitrose headquarters can now book Saco Bracknell though the Apartment Service.
The area
Bracknell has been used in the filming of many TV shows and films, such as Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and Time Bandits. The town has a large leisure centre, which includes swimming and athletics facilities, whilst there is also the Coral Reef Water Park, the Downshire Golf Complex, the Bracknell Lawn Tennis Club and the Royal County of Berkshire Club. The John Nike Leisure Sport Complex houses a dry ski slope and an ice rink, and there are 2,600 acres of Crown Estate woodland at the Look Out Discovery Centre.

As you may know, the Apartment Service has teamed up with a group of relocation experts in Madrid to offer a brand new accommodation solution in the heart of the gastronomic capital of Spain. One of our new business development executive, paid a short visit to Apartamentos Sandoval a few days ago, here are his thoughts:
‘The Sandoval Apartments were very beautiful and I enjoyed the local vicinity. I stopped at the local Carrefour which was very busy... When I heard a lady exclaim “mañana” and then left the store, I should have taken the hint but I decided to try the Spanish shopping experience. Which I can confirm was worthwhile as I picked up a very nice bottle of Rioja and some great food. It’s the little things in life.
The general area around the apartments was excellent and I can confidently promote the features, advantages and benefits of staying at Sandoval. I did manage to visit Opera, Callao, Sol, Gran Via and the Savilla areas... I loved the atmosphere and how accessible everything is in Madrid, so I’m looking forward to coming back for a longer stay in the future.’
Enough said. Everyone in the office is currently firing emails to our Managing Director to find out when it’s our turn to “sample” first hand Apartamentos Sandoval in Madrid...

The Apartment Service is currently researching for the follow up to the first Global Serviced Apartment Industry Report which was published in September 2008. This follow up looks at the global serviced apartment / extended stay sector, divided in the various global regions and with the changed economic climate in mind.
Thank you very much for completing the survey. If you have not completed it yet, you can go back to it here. Please feel free to comment further on anything in the survey. Maybe you wish to expand on the following topics:
* What will be the three biggest challenges facing your business in 2010?
or
* If you could change the worldwide serviced apartment sector, what would you do/implement?
We look forward to your comments and active participation which hopefully turn into a lively discussion about these relevant and current topics which concern us all.
